Bifold doors that open the whole wall
Solarlux set the standard for folding glass doors in 1983, and they are still the benchmark. The panels fold away into a slim stack, so a closed wall of glass becomes an open room.
Folding doors, bifold doors, concertina doors: same idea, better engineered
You may know them as bifold doors, bifold patio doors, folding doors, accordion doors or concertina doors. Solarlux's custom-made system gathers the individual panels into a slender bundle to one side, so, unlike a sliding door, no large section of the opening stays covered by glass when open.
You choose the width, the number of panels and whether they fold left or right, inwards or outwards. You can combine them with tilt-and-turn panels or window elements. Closed, the large glass areas give more light and an unobstructed view of the garden.

For houses, extensions and internal glass walls
Solarlux bifolds go well beyond patio openings. Highly insulated versions suit passive houses. Uninsulated versions suit covered outdoor seating. They also work as shopfront and café walls and, internally, as folding glass partitions between rooms.
If you are weighing bifold against sliding, our sliding doors page explains when a lift and slide is the better choice.

Bifold doors: your questions answered
What is the difference between bifold doors and folding doors?
They are the same thing. Bifold, folding, accordion and concertina doors all describe panels that hinge together and fold to one side. Solarlux is the leading maker of the system.
Are bifold doors secure?
Solarlux bifold doors are available with RC2 and RC3 burglar resistance, which is certified testing for forced-entry resistance.
Can bifold doors be fitted indoors?
Yes. They are used as internal folding glass walls and partitions, and can be installed in a house, café, shop or office.
Are bifold doors energy efficient?
Insulated Solarlux systems use thermally broken profiles and high-performance glazing and can be used in passive-house projects. Uninsulated systems are intended for outdoor seating areas.
How much do bifold doors cost in Ireland?
Price depends on width, number of panels, glazing and finish, so each door is quoted individually. Ask us for a free quote and we will confirm your options.
