Both options turn a wall into a view. The right choice depends on whether you care more about the widest possible opening or the biggest, clearest glass when closed.
Bifold (folding) doors
The panels hinge together and fold into a slim stack to one side. Solarlux set the standard here, and its folding glass doors can be opened completely, with nothing left in your sightline. You can choose how many panels, which way they fold, and combine them with tilt-and-turn panels or window elements.
Best for: the widest opening, indoor-outdoor living, cafés and shop fronts, and internal folding glass walls.
Consider: the stacked panels need space where they fold, and you see more frame lines when closed. Solarlux offers insulated systems for passive-house use and uninsulated systems for outdoor seating, with RC2 and RC3 burglar-resistance options. See bifold doors.
Lift and slide doors
Turn the handle and the heavy glass sash lifts onto rollers so it glides easily. Close it and it drops and seals. Internorm’s HS 330 has an extra-low threshold and triple glazing, and can be made in very large sizes.
Best for: big, uninterrupted views, slim frames, and step-free thresholds.
Consider: you only ever open part of the width, because the panels slide behind a fixed one. See sliding doors.
Large-scale sliders: cero
Solarlux cero takes sliding to an extreme: elements up to 15 m² of glass in a 34 mm frame. It is the right choice for very large openings where the glass should dominate. See Solarlux cero.

How to choose
Ask three questions. Do you want to open the whole wall? Choose bifold. Do you want the clearest view when closed? Choose lift and slide or cero. Is the opening very large and architect-led? Look at cero or Internorm STUDIO XL.
Not sure? Talk to us. We will ask about the room, the orientation and the budget, and recommend a system.
